We are Free from Sin

Hello, Bridge family. I hope you're having a good week. This week, we explored the story of the Apostle Paul’s journey to Damascus (Acts 9). It’s a powerful story that reveals much about human nature and how God reveals Himself to us. Consider this: Paul thought he was doing the right thing and was passionate about God. But, as you'll read, God opened his eyes to the truth of Jesus Christ. For most of us, in less dramatic ways, we’ve had a similar experience. Before God reveals Himself, we often see ourselves as good people, believing the good outweighs the bad and that, in the end, God wouldn’t send us to Hell. The truth is, we are blind to the real picture. Then, like Paul, we come to realize our need for Jesus Christ. When we accept this truth, we are indwelled with the Holy Spirit, and our lives are changed for eternity. We have been set free from sin.

Have you ever considered what it truly means to be free from sin? How can we explain this concept to children in a simple way? How do we avoid feeling discouraged when we sin, even though we are told we are free from sin? Without understanding what it means to be free from sin, it can become a heavy burden. I believe this confusion is one reason many young people leave the church as they grow up. Here are three ways you could discuss what it means to be free from sin with your children this week.

· We are free from sin's penalty. Kids know wrong actions deserve punishment, which they've experienced. The Bible states sin's punishment is death, but God's grace sent Jesus to take that punishment. When we sin, we regret but can be thankful Jesus bore our punishment so we wouldn't have to.

· Once we accept Christ, Jesus becomes our ruler, not sin. Sin keeps us captive, and we're powerless to free ourselves. Jesus promised the Holy Spirit, our helper, who guides us and helps us sin less. Turning to Him, the Holy Spirit frees us to enjoy Jesus more. The more we communicate with Him, the more aware we become of His presence.

· We are free from the presence of sin. To understand this, we have to think beyond the here and now; we have to have our eyes on Heaven, for that is where sin will cease to exist. Heaven is the prize; we should set our minds above, not on the here and now.

Let me encourage you to check out DigIN@Home for more ideas to help you dig deeper into this week’s lesson. It is a great tool to help you lead your family in Christ.

Remember, as long as your child is at home, you have a wonderful opportunity to share the Bible. Together, explore its stories, discuss how they relate to daily life, and encourage deeper family conversations. This makes faith an exciting and meaningful journey. God bless. I look forward to seeing your family on Sunday.
