9/16/2026 We are God's ChildrenHello, Bridge family. I hope all is well. This week we shared in the Bridge that we are God’s children. Have you ever thought about what makes you a child of God? Or what does it mean to be a child of God?
The Apostle John makes it clear in the opening chapter of his Gospel what makes us children of God. But to all who believed him (Jesus) and accepted him (Jesus), he (God the Father) gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12 NLT). Believing and accepting the good news, the Gospel, is what allows us to be called children of God. What is the Gospel? I like the way theologian and teacher R.C. Sproul puts it, So the gospel has a narrow definition: it’s the message about Jesus…But, specifically, if you look at what we call in the New Testament…the apostolic proclamation of the gospel, it focuses on Christ: who He is, what He did, and how we receive His benefits. A child of God is a benefit afforded only to those whose faith is in Christ, who is God in the flesh, and in what He did, as revealed in His death, burial, and resurrection. Not everyone is a child of God. All are image-bearers of God, but only those who accept and believe the Gospel are God’s children. This distinction matters because many teach the opposite, believing that all of humanity is God’s children. So, what does it mean to be a child of God? It means you are a son or daughter of the Almighty, adopted through Jesus, his Son, and “neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38–39). This is such an important message to share with our families, wouldn’t you agree? I believe that, as parents, we should frequently reinforce it to encourage them all to be a light in a dark world. Let me encourage you to check out DigIN@Home for more ideas to help you dig deeper into this week’s lesson. It is a great tool to help you lead your family in Christ. Remember, as long as your child is at home, you have a wonderful opportunity to share the Bible. Together, explore its stories, discuss how they relate to daily life, and encourage deeper family conversations. This makes faith an exciting and meaningful journey. God bless. I look forward to seeing your family on Sunday. Pastor Bob Comments are closed.
